Cormac McCarthy, often called America's greatest modern author, passed away today and even if you never read any of his books, here's something you should know: For the first 27 years of his writing career, hardly anyone noticed. None of his books sold over 5,000 copies.— Jason Pargin, author of John Dies at the End, etc (@JasonKPargin) June 13, 2023

recurringly sad thing to encounter is the kind of person who cringes at the exact thing that would solve their problems if they simply accepted it. but of course there's typically a good reason why they're cringing at it, so there's a secondary thing they have to address first— Visakan Veerasamy (@visakanv) June 13, 2023

Explanation / easy summary of the Reddit API debacle

Steven Soderbergh says he’s “not afraid of AI” as a writer.“It has no life experience. It’s never been hungover or scared. It’s never felt insecure because somebody it went to school with has become incredibly successful. As of today, it’s not keeping me up at night.” pic.twitter.com/17YdPZefru— Film Updates (@FilmUpdates) June 12, 2023

Sigh. Okay, once again: The reason the end of the federal net neutrality rule didn't significantly impact the internet is California shortly after enacted its own net neutrality rule, and carriers decided it was cheaper to stay net neutral than create a patchwork for every state. https://t.co/NLV5rEJKt0— Matthew Chapman (@fawfulfan) June 11, 2023

It’s clear to me that comics, and the arts in general, are broken industries. Art cannot exist easily under the systems that exist. Art grows in the cracks. What is plucked from the ground is mostly what is recognisable or guaranteed profitable.— adam (@Kumerish) June 11, 2023

If elite schools like Harvard just admitted the highest scorers on the SAT, such schools would probably experience a decline in their elite status, which is the very reason people so badly want to be admitted in the first place.Folks aren’t ready for that conversation. pic.twitter.com/X6cUWY48AM— Kareem Carr | Data Scientist (@kareem_carr) June 11, 2023

To give you an idea of how unfinished Cyberpunk 2077 was upon release, it's getting an expansion in a few months that totally repairs all of the flawed/broken systems (progression, police spawning, vehicle gameplay and more)... meaning it took THREE YEARS for them to fix it all.— Jason Pargin, author of John Dies at the End, etc (@JasonKPargin) June 12, 2023

something that doesn't seem discussed much is that men mansplain to other men, too male-to-male conversation dynamics are generally adversarial, particularly in the workplaceinterruption and disagreement are commonplace, even expected— 𝘀𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀 (@skooookum) June 11, 2023

This is probably the most lucid or poignant he’ll ever get, fully acknowledging that his base has no coherent ideology or beliefs, just whatever shit they all agree upsets them at any given time. He hates them so much https://t.co/8kXfoNKlGv— Ed Zitron (@edzitron) June 11, 2023

“Michael Shannon on playing Zod in #TheFlash “I’m not gonna lie, it wasn’t quite satisfying for me, as an actor. These multiverse movies are like somebody playing with action figures. It’s like, “Here’s this person. Here’s that person. And they’re fighting!” It’s not quite the…”

“It’s cool that they’re calling it a “spatial computer”, which is a significant break from the “tech first” way of calling it a “headset”. It’s not about what it is, but what you do with it: You can do all kinds of computing tasks with it, but in a new kind of spatial way.43/?”

“So, @Apple’s new #VisionPro headset is out, and it looks like a cool product. I happened to work on it five years ago, so here’s a number of thoughts on the gadget. This is long and rambling, and all of my first-hand information is five years old, so make of it what you will.1/?”

“Kind of interesting that the glassy, three dimensional visionOS UI (which is real) looks a lot like Microsoft’s “fancy fantasy” UI from its promo videos, which is completely fake. Shows the difference in culture between the two pretty well.”

“Fun fact - Microsoft pioneered this with their proximity light in MRTK! Their fluent design was really ahead of its time, and remains a masterclass for direct touch interaction.”

you know what? nobody was going into comics expecting to make boatloads of money. but people are allowed to have dreams, ambitions, & to be a little starry eyed at the beginning. those are human emotions. fuck out of here with your little "well that's just capitalism" smug shit https://t.co/omXEA0Jrfn— wendy xu 🤖 preorder INFINITY PARTICLE!
